I don’t know if you paid attention to it, but MSN Messenger has discreetly and quietly introduced Ad links in its message window. Quite smart and much better than the banners that ICQ are using. This Ad is for Coca-Cola Light.

AIM, MSN Messenger, ICQ, Y! and Skype – watch out! It is quite simple, but then again for an IM you don’t need any other features. Haven’t tried the voice function yet so will come back on that one.

Sidebar_hp_1

And here we go again. Yet another Google product. Google launched Sidebar with the following features:

  • Email (read Gmail in real time)
  • News headlines from Google News
  • Weather from up to 4 locations
  • Stock prices are real time, not 15 minutes delayed
  • RSS feeds from the Web are automatically added from Web pages you visit, and can also be added manually
  • Scratch Pad is a simple online text editor that allows you to add notes to yourself
  • Quick view is a list of frequently used Web pages and desktop files
  • Desktop search covers Web pages and hard drive files
  • Desktop applications are definately on the rise, just take a look at Yahoo’s aqusition of Konfabulator. The only missing feature in the sidebar is an instant messenger, but I have a very strong feeling that that has been cooking for a long time and is yet to come. Would definately make sense. I am sure we’ll see something similar soon on Yahoo, AIM and others. Thanks to Ouriel for the link.

Skypeminicastver1_1As a former IM guy, I am alway trying to figure out new creative IM ideas. This one I really like, Skypeminicasting from Uri Levanon. Uri suggest that people leave a small minicast to their buddies on the buddy list, basically a voice extension of the small personal tagline you can put today on your MSN – Skype Journal dubbed it BuddyCasting . Hey Skype – pick up this idea, I think it got legs! Everybody is looking for a stage in one way or another now-adays to express them selves – this is yet another way of doing it. I would go even further and create a service to enable people to randomly access and listen to Buddycasts. It could be hilarious, users could then filter to whom their buddycast would be available to.
